Mediation is a great way to handle disputes in general, but especially with people you see and interact with on a regular basis. With the strong potential for a win/win, seeing these people in your community won’t have to be uncomfortable anymore.
Community Disputes
Our center can work with a large range of conflicts, including:
- Animal Complaints
- Breach of Contract

- Housing Disputes
- Neighborhood Disputes
- Property Issues
- School Problems
- Small Claims
- Public Housing Disputes
- Consumer and Merchant
We accept referrals from individuals, organizations, associations, and municipalities. The only prerequisite is the willingness to work toward resolution.
Specialized Community Services
Agricultural Mediation -- Through NYSDRA, the DRC has a contract with the USDA to assist in resolving disputes between agricultural communities. The program goal is to avoid costly litigation, foreclosure and/or bankruptcy and to identify exit stress, maintain your source of income, enable parties to restructure loans, improve lending policies, and improve communication with banks, producers, and farmers.
Custody and Visitation -- In conjunction with the Herkimer County Family Court, parents who are considering a custody or visitation petition, or who are already involved in a custody dispute, can request mediation as an alternative to Family Court intervention.
Special Education -- Title IIA of Article 25 of the Public Health Law requires that special education and early intervention services be provided to families of infants and toddlers with disabilities, school age children and their families. This establishes the right of the parent who disagrees with the determination of an evaluator to use mediation to resolve the dispute.
Mobile Home Disputes -- The DRC has a contract with the Division of Housing and Community Renewal to mediate disputes that arise between Mobile Home Park owners and residents involving a violation of #233 of the NYS Real Property Law.
Lemon Law Arbitration -- We work in direct correlation with the Attorney General’s Office to provide arbitration services to people who are looking for relief from the headache of a troubling car, under the NYS New or Used Car Lemon Law Program.
